Charlie Reckner has been the Administrator of the EM program for many years and has decided to turn over this ministry but continue as an Extraordinary Minister. We all thank him for his service.
Here is his Notice:
I have been the Administrator for the Catholic Extraordinary Minister (EM) Program at Ann’s Choice since 2016. A brief summary of my tenure is in order. I joined the Catholic Council in 2014 when I initially came to Ann’s Choice. At that time Bob Klimek was Chairman of the Council. In 2015, Bob requested I become an EM and also assume responsibility for administrating the entire EM Program. I was trained by Father Angelo Citino who was Pastor of Nativity of our Lord Parish at that time. Father Joseph Watson succeeded Father Citino as Pastor in September, 2016. John McSorley succeeded Bob Klimek as Chairman of the Catholic Council in 2022.
The primary functions of the Extraordinary Minister Program includes the following:
1. Seek and train voluntary resident EM candidates,
2. Prepare Communion Service Schedules for the Independent Living and Continuing Care Communities,
3. Attend every Sunday Mass and obtain consecrated Communion hosts at Nativity of Our Lord Church,
4. Conduct Sunday Communion Services in the Village, Liberty, Keystone and Continuing Care venues.
5. Provide resident apartment visits after the Services when required.
A staff of 18 EM’s is maintained to support the program. Each Sunday, 5 EM’s distribute an average of 130 hosts to Catholic residents.
This brings me to the primary purpose of this email. It is time for me to pass the reins to a new Administrator. I am pleased to advise a current EM has accepted the challenge. Kathy O’Connor has stepped forward at a time when volunteering seems to be very unpopular. I am extremely grateful for Kathy’s enthusiasm to continue this most important program for our Catholic residents. Please join me in wishing her well in this new endeavor. I also wish to extend my gratitude to everyone who has supported the program with particular thanks to John McSorley, our Catholic Council Chairman. Kathy will assume the Administrator duties immediately and I will continue my EM participation going forward.
Thank You,
Charlie Reckner
